JAN 1, 2016 – Twenty-one (21) Physicians have been named to Concierge Medicine Today’s annual ‘Top Doctors In Concierge Medicine’ for 2016, a distinction held by less than one percent of doctors across the country each year. In 2010, Concierge Medicine Today, the industry’s medical news and information resource recognized fourteen (14) doctors to receive this honor. In subsequent years, only a select few have made the list. Honorees were nominated by patients, professional peers, staff and others from across the U.S. They are carefully selected and chosen by the Editors at Concierge Medicine Today, who considered such factors as: healthcare delivery innovation; clinical excellence; bedside manner; public relations; patient experience; community education; and other relevant indicators.

Dr. Harley Liker, an internist on the faculty of David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, was a consultant for the EMMY Winning Drama, HOUSE MD. His job was to help guide the writing staff through the medical mystery each week. He notes that case studies from the New England Journal of Medicine were mined for ideas.

Over a decade ago, Dr. Harley Liker (Beverly Hills, CA) recognized that the practice of medicine was moving away from the traditional doctor patient relationship. In 2000, Dr. Liker started one of the first “concierge practices” in the United States. Dr. Liker has limited his practice size to fewer than 150 individuals and typically does not see more than a few patients in any given day. This allows him to spend extended time with each patient. It also gives him the opportunity to practice proactive medicine and build positive meaningful relationships with his patients.  This approach enables him to devote the time to consult with other leading physicians across the country and to do the necessary research to optimize the care that his patients receive.

The overwhelming benefits of Concierge Medicine can be summed up in two words, time and transparency. Concierge Medicine is typically understood to be a transparent, cost-effective relationship between a patient and physician in which the patient pays an annual fee or retainer. All Concierge Doctors generally claim to be accessible via telephone or email at any time of day or night or offer some other service above and beyond the customary care. While all Concierge Medicine practices share similarities, they vary widely in their service offering, payment requirements, cost and form of operation.
