Richard P. Chern, M.D. has opened his own practice in Miramar Beach.
After more than 24 years of experience in the medical field, Richard P. Chern, M.D. has opened his own practice in Miramar Beach.
Specializing in concierge medicine and aesthetics, Chern’s practice will include a family practice with the addition of providing treatments like Botox, hormone therapy, Restylane and Suboxone to patients.
Concierge implies no insurance is necessary and Chern said in his mind, it eliminates the hassle of paperwork for the patient.
“Typically you see a patient and you have 10 or 15 minutes and you spend five minutes with the patient and five minutes documenting everything. So now, I’ll be able to spend more a lot time with a patient.”
For example, Chern said, “So if it’s a family practice patient we will spend a half hour to an hour with them … I think they’ll get better care in the long run.”
For the past two years Chern has been working at Sacred Heart Emergency Department in Port St. Joe and Apalachicola with Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf.
Chern told The Sun he is excited to have his own practice in the area. He added that his eagerness to begin working grew when the sign was placed on the office entrance.
“It spurs you to start working more,” he said.
Located at 12889 Hwy 98 W Suite 107B next to Ava’s Attack, the new practice will be open 9-5 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning next week.
Chern received his medical training from the University of Missouri in Kansas City and is also certified on the American Board of Family Practice. His experience also includes certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac and Trauma Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. His family has been living the area since 2005.
The practice will have its ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening with the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. For more information about services and appointments, call 850-837-1271.
