Dr. Sweigert was born and raised in Sacramento and attended Jesuit High School and later CSU, Fresno where he received a bachelor of science degree in Physical Therapy. While practicing Physical Therapy at hospitals in the Sacramento area he completed pre-med studies at C.S.U Sacramento and later attended Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. Upon completing his Internal Medicine residency Dr. Sweigert moved his young family to Bath, Maine where he practiced for five years with Mid Coast Medical Group before returning to Northern California.

In January 1998 Dr. Sweigert assumed the practice of retiring Napa Internist, Dr. Alvin Lee Block and since then “Dr. Paul” has continued to provide quality primary care Internal Medicine. In 2013 Dr. Sweigert completed his ten year re-certification in Internal Medicine and also achieved Fellowship in the American College of Physicians. With his two children grown, Dr. Sweigert decided to leave group practice in 2014 to pursue his dream of solo practice Internal Medicine. Medical School: Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, New Hampshire Residency: Internal Medicine, Providence Medical Center, Portland, Oregon Dr. Sweigert is an ABIM board-certified internist, Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Past President of the Napa/Solano Medical Society, Dr. Sweigert is active in local, state and national healthcare issues. He forges relationships with his patients through careful assessment of their problems and concerns, understanding their individual needs and working with each patient to develop a personal health plan. A dedicated runner and bicyclist, Dr Sweigert rode with his family from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean in 2006 on a journey his son termed “Flexible Enterprise”.

Patients struggle to find a primary care doctor
Catherine Friesen enrolled in Covered California after moving to Napa from Seattle. Then she started looking for a physician.
“It seemed like I had a good assortment until I dug in. Over half of the available doctors were at Clinic Ole,” but “that is not where I wanted to get my healthcare.”
That reduced her list to four doctors, only one of whom was accepting Covered California patients.
Friesen said she did not care for that physician.
Six months later, she again tried to find a doctor. Of five choices, one was a concierge doctor whom she said charged $2,000 a year in fees, three were specialists (not family practice as listed) and only one accepted her insurance.
